Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions
A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice nurse with a Master’s or Doctoral degree and board certification, specializing in mental health care. They are trained to assess, diagnose, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, provide therapy, and develop treatment plans for various mental health conditions.
PMHNPs take a holistic approach, combining nursing expertise with psychological and pharmacological knowledge. Whether you need therapy, medication, or both, a PMHNP provides compassionate, evidence-based care to support your mental health.
The main difference between a psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner lies in their educational background and scope of practice. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health, trained to diagnose and treat mental illnesses through medication, therapy, and other medical interventions. They complete medical school and residency to gain their expertise.
In contrast, a psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse with specialized training in psychiatric and mental health care. PMHNPs assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders, provide therapy and counseling, and prescribe medications within their scope of practice.
While both professionals work in mental health, psychiatrists have a broader medical background, whereas psychiatric nurse practitioners bring nursing expertise and often focus on a holistic, patient-centered approach.
Yes, we accept Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oregon / Regence, Cigna, Moda, Providence, and United Healthcare. For all other insurance plans, if you have ‘out of network’ coverage, you may pay privately and we will provide a detailed invoice that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. We only accept primary insurance and we do not accept secondary insurances.
Currently we accept major credit cards, checks, and money transfers. We charge based on the following situations:
If the invoice sent before the appointment is not paid 24 hours before, the card on file will be charged.
If there is a balance due after insurance processes the claim, the card on file will be charged.
The card may also be used for copays, co-insurances, no-show fees, and other balances due.
Feel free to contact us if you have further questions.
